Make Mondays Less Manic And More About Me!

Monday. Enough said, #amiright? Everyone's least favorite day of the week. Although, weekends aren't quite what they used to be either after having a kiddo. Rest is for the weary. Parents I know you can relate. That's why I want to shake up this conversation and negativity towards poor 'ol Monday.

“Monday is an awful way to spend 1/7 of your life.”- Steven Wright

Years ago I misread the quote above. Instead of reading it as is, my eyes read it as such, "Monday is an awful way to spend hating 1/7 of your life." That quote resonated with me. Yep, the one I inadvertently altered. It's a mistake that really made a great impact on my life. At that point of my life I was working a pretty mundane full-time job, attending college full-time and hence being in college I was the ultimate weekend warrior! It really dawned on me that Monday honestly takes up one seventh of our lives. Why should we exhaust so much energy hating a significant portion of our life?

I would guess for the large majority, you lean more towards the thoughts of Steven Wright and dread Monday. But, what if I could give you a tip for making Monday less manic?

"Fight the Sunday night mope and Monday mania."

Besides shifting your personal feelings towards Monday, have you thought about taking back the power? Fight the Sunday night mope and Monday mania. Instead, plan something that you personally look forward to on Monday.

For me, I love primping... would you have ever guessed? I'm assuming the name of this blog gave it away! That's why I typically take myself to get a manicure on Monday's, or grab a specialty latte, or something that is special and just for me. Sometimes I share the day and take my little for ice cream, but typically I like my alone time and doing a little something just nice for mommy.

I spend all week looking forward to that one thing I enjoy so much. Now, I'm not saying that I get my nails done every week. What I do, do is plan out something that is enjoyable for me and I leave that task to do on the most mundane (surprised it's not spelled mondane) day of the week. Sometimes that means making a solo Target run. Moms, I know you feel me on that one!

“Taking care of yourself doesn't mean me first, it means me too.” – L.R. Knost

Now, I understand not everyone works a typical Monday-Friday, 9-5 job. So if Thursday is your version of Monday, plan accordingly. You know my saying, do what works for you and your family.

I’m going to share another way you can really spice up your week. You're probably in a similar situation to myself, you're a working mom (SAHM, I do NOT count you out) with a working spouse/partner and a busy schedule. We're all putting in work and I see you! If you can get your significant other to jump on board with this plan, I'm guessing both of your lives improve.

One day out of the week, my husband is responsible for picking up our daughter from daycare, fixing her dinner and taking care of all nighttime duties. That night I am free to do as I please. Sometimes I find myself at happy hour catching up with friends. Other times I take myself to a cafe, shove food in my face and get cracking on blog posts. That's actually how this post came to life! It's amazing the things you can get accomplished in a couple of hours when you're forced to focus.

"I don't want to forget that I am also a person who needs my own time and attention."

Everything in life is about balance and compromise. Tell your significant other that you need a break and personal time to focus on you. Remember your life sans marriage and kids? Yes, they are the biggest blessings in my life, but I don't want to forget that I am also a person who needs my own time and attention.

Mama, I'm asking you to make yourself a priority! Show yourself some self-love and provide yourself some self-care. We all need a break from the hustle of everyday life. Even if you aren't a mother, you need a break. We all do. We are all human. You owe it to yourself!

Now who wants to meet up for happy hour?

As Always. With ❤️
